A resounding success for the fifth Monaco Private Label Summit
On 23rd, 24th and 25th March 2017, Monaco hosted the fifth Monaco Private Label (MPL) annual summit, initiated by Mr Michel Bouquier, which brought together over 180 investors from 27 countries.
MPL members took part in the lecture “Vie privée, sécurité et philanthropie” (Privacy, security and philanthropy) as well as in a round table session moderated by Mr Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, which was held in the presence of H.E. Mr Serge Telle, Minister of State.
From 30 March to 4 April 2017, the future of oceans under debate in Monaco
The Principality of Monaco’s commitment to marine ecosystem conservation is deeply rooted in its history: from the inauguration of the Institute of Oceanography by Prince Albert I of Monaco in 1911, to the more recently created Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in 2006. This ambition to better understand the environmental dangers to our planet, and especially our oceans, figures once again on the Monaco agenda over the coming weeks.
From 30 March to 4 April, in partnership with Rolex, local actors and Monaco-based international organisations will share their experiences and reflect on marine conservation and blue economy sustainable development at the Monaco Ocean Week.
Launch of the E Rally des Gazelles
Every year, the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc brings together in the Moroccan desert more than three hundred women of over thirty different nationalities aged between 18 and 65. This year, a new category dedicated to electric vehicles has been created: the E-Rallye des Gazelles. The first edition was officially kicked off by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco at 10.45 am on Saturday 18th March in the Palace Square in Monaco, when he gave the starting signal for the competing electric vehicles.
Eminent figures present included André Azoulay, Senior Adviser to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the racing driver, Paul Belmondo.
Founded by Mrs Dominique Serra, the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc was awarded the “Tourism and Climate” prize by Morroco’s Ministry of Tourism during Cop 22.
The Sovereign has sponsored a white paper on the rally entitled “Construisons ensemble des rallye-raids durables” (Let us build together sustainable off-road rallies).
A machine designed to produce water donated to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
A revolutionary machine designed to trap moisture from the air and transform it into drinking water was donated to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation on 16th March 2017. The gift was presented directly to HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco by Mrs Angela Van Wright Von Berger, President of the NGO Unakids and Mr Marco Honegger, founder of the Watershed Association and co-founder of SEAS, the company which manufactures the machine. The primary mission of Watershed, founded in Monaco in 2016, is to identify areas of the world where drinking water is scarce. The model presented, the “AWA Modula 25” can produce up to 250 litres of water a day. The Foundation will be sending this water fountain to Burkina Faso shortly, where it will be made available to the Burkina Faso Red Cross training centre, constructed using the structure of the Monaco Pavilion from the Milan Expo. The practical and technical arrangements are currently being finalised.
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco visits Madrid
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco travelled to Madrid on 6th March 2017 within the framework of the first actions implemented by the Foundation’s Spanish branch, created in April 2016. In the presence of Mrs Carol Portabella, the President of the Foundation’s Spanish branch, the Sovereign visited the Dehesa del Milagro biodynamic farming estate located North of Madrid.
This was followed by an evening event during which guests were introduced to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and made aware of the causes it promotes.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation celebrates the tenth anniversary of its French branch, Salle Gaveau
On 22nd February 2017, a gala event was held at the Salle Gaveau in Paris, under the presidency of HSH the Sovereign Prince, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the French branch of the Prince Albert II Foundation, a branch presided over since 2016 by Annabelle Jaeger, a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council.
A concert featuring Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Miroslav Kultyshev, Hélène Mercier and Ruggero Raimondi was given in the prestigious classical concert hall kindly made available by Mr and Mrs Fournier.
The proceeds from the evening, attended by close to 300 guests, have been donated to the Foundation.
SIAM took place from 16th to 19th February 2017
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has joined forces with the Salon International de l’Automobile Ecologique* (SIAM) which is taking place in Monaco from 16th to 19th February 2017.
The show, which was inaugurated by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco on 16th February 2017, is dedicated to new technologies and prestigious, environmentally-friendly cars.
The Forum de l’Automobile Ecologique was held on Friday 17th February 2017 with the support of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
A panel discussion moderated by Mr Joseph Beretta, President of Avere France (Association pour le véhicule électrique routier européen) was also held during the Forum.
The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation receives Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, for the screening of the Solar Impulse film
On 13th February 2017, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II, hosted a screening of the documentary “Solar Impulse, l’impossible tour du monde (the impossible world tour)” (55 minutes), produced by Gédéon. The screening, which attracted close to 1000 individuals, was followed by a discussion with the mission’s pilots, Bertrand Piccard, the initiator and pilot of Solar Impulse and André Borschberg, co-founder and co-pilot of Solar Impulse, who came to tell the story of their 43,000 kilometre journey around the globe, without using one single drop of fuel. Bolstered by the personal commitment of Prince Albert II of Monaco, his Foundation and the Government of Monaco’s involvement in promoting the transition towards low-carbon energy, the Principality of Monaco actively supported the Solar Impulse project and housed the mission’s strategic centre in the Rainier III Auditorium until its final landing in Abu Dhabi on 26th July 2016.
22nd Meeting of the Prince Albert II of Monaco’s Scientific and Technical Committee
On 14th February 2017, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco welcomed the members of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation’s Scientific and Technical Committee, who met in the Principality for its 22nd working session.
The meeting was primarily focused on the examination of twelve new projects concerning Climate Change, Biodiversity and Water, which, following the opinion of the Scientific and Technical Committee and subject to final approval by the Board of Directors on 21st April 2017, may be offered the Foundation’s support.
Since it was first established in 2006, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has supported 382 projects.
Agreement signed with the Oxford Martin School
On 13th February 2017, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation signed an agreement with the Oxford Martin School.
The Oxford Martin School houses a research centre dedicated to climate change, ocean sustainability and biodiversity.
The two entities have therefore decided to pool their complementary expertise and to create future synergies, particularly as far as research is concerned. This agreement will enable them to jointly organise conferences and round tables focused on common thematic areas, i.e. environmental protection.
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco visits the Oxford Union
On Monday, 6th February 2017, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco visited the Oxford Union. The Sovereign was received by Mr Nikolay Koshikov, President of the Oxford Union. Founded in 1823, it is one of the world’s most prestigious debating and student societies, located in the heart of Oxford University.

The Auguste Escoffier Foundation donates 5000 Euros to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
On 25th January 2017, the Auguste Escoffier Foundation handed over a cheque for 5,000 Euros to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
To mark the 170th anniversary of the birth of Auguste Escoffier, the renowned French master chef and culinary writer, the Foundation of the same name hosted a symposium on 28th October 2016 focused on “Cooking and Health in the 21st Century” under the high patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.
All the proceeds from the tombola (5000 Euros), which took place during the event, have been donated to the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
The Auguste Escoffier Foundation, presided over by Michel Escoffier, promotes French haute cuisine and perpetuates the memory and work of August Escoffier.
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco takes part in the Ocean Symposium during the Boot Düsseldorf Boat Show and Water Sports Exhibition.
HSH Prince Albert II was in Düsseldorf on 23rd and 24th January 2017 to attend the Ocean Symposium organised by the German Ocean Foundation during the international boat show, Boot Düsseldorf, which is being held from 21st to 29th January 2017 and attracts close to 250,000 visitors every year.
On the occasion of the launch of the Ocean Tribute Award, a prize which will be presented as of 2018, the Sovereign stated: “The marine environment is currently deeply threatened. It is threatened by one single danger: humanity and its irresponsible activities. The foundations of this Award lie with the importance of mobilising as many people as possible around this cause and drawing the attention of our contemporaries to this imperative which should unite us all. (…) I was keen for my Foundation to be involved in this exceptional project.”
H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco awards the 2017 Prince’s Prize for innovative philanthropy to Peggy Rockefeller President of Synergos Institute
Monaco, January 16, 2017 - The 2017 Prince's Prize for Innovative Philanthropy has been awarded to Peggy Dulany, President of Synergos Institute.
Peggy Dulany is Chair of the Synergos Institute, a global non-profit organization helping solve complex problems of poverty and inequality by promoting and supporting collaboration. Drawing from her experience living and working in Rio de Janeiro as a young woman, she realized that the people most affected by adverse living conditions also have the greatest energy and motivation to solve their problems. The resources they lack are connections to the economic and political realms where necessary changes can affect whole communities.
Launch of the 2017 edition of « Students on Ice »
Every year, the “Students on Ice” programme, created 15 years ago in Canada, gives young students the opportunity to come into contact with the realities of the Arctic region and its evolution, thanks to an educational cruise.
For the past 10 years, as part of a partnership between the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, two Year 12 students from the Principality have been selected every winter to take part in “Students on Ice”.
The selection process for the participants of the 2017 edition was launched on 11th January at the Lycée Technique et Hôtelier of Monaco, in the presence of HSH the Sovereign Prince. Aimed at selecting two new winners, this year’s competition is based on the theme “the relationship between humans and wildlife”.
